Patrick Dempsey visits Porsche Centre Dublin

Hollywood actor Patrick Dempsey might be better known for his role as Derek Shepherd aka Dr. Mc Dreamy on Grey’s Anatomy – but he’s also a fantastically talented race car driver, Porsche enthusiast and Porsche Eyeware Brand Ambassador with his own collection of Porsche’s back home in the United States. It was only a matter of time before Mr. Dempsey made contact with Porsche Centre Dublin while over in Ireland filming the latest Disney sequel to “Enchanted” in Enniskerry.  

With the date set and the Centre Team ready to greet him, we waited in quiet excitement for the actor to arrive. Personable and polite, Patrick arrived and after a round of introductions he began talking Porsche facts and statistics with all the members of the team. Almost immediately we learned that he owned a Porsche Tractor as part of his collection and so we took the opportunity to bring him upstairs to compare his against our own. An avid race car driver – Patrick couldn’t pass up the opportunity to sit in our 911 GT2RS which can go from 0-60 in 2.7 seconds flat. Over a cup of coffee and a tour of the showroom we had plenty of time to ask him questions and get to know a bit more about this Le Mans driver. We asked how he feels about Ireland – Loves it, Porsche – Loves it, Racing – Can’t wait to get out on a track again, and finally his experience so far of filming the new Disenchanted movie – “So much fun.”

Patrick was delighted to see some of his own cars adorning the walls of Porsche Centre Dublin, upstairs in the offices and elsewhere around the showroom – (we invite you to come and see if you can spot them on your next visit). Patrick’s passion for Porsche doesn’t stop at the finished product – he knows these vehicles inside and out and requested a tour of the workshop, so we headed back downstairs to introduce our team of  Porsche Technicians and let Patrick get up close and personal with some of the engines and classic Porsche’s that the team are currently working on.

After a 2 hour visit, we were genuinely disappointed to see him go, but knowing that he’s going to come back in to us on his next day off to test drive the Taycan gives us something to look forward to.
